A. THE MEANING OF THE SYMBOL FOR THE YEAR FOR PRIESTS
The symbolism is that of the Sacred Heart, calling to mind that the annual day for the sanctification of priests always coincides with the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In this way the theme of the specific holiness to which the sacred ministry is called comes immediately to mind.
The visibility of the radiant heart refers to the phrase of the saintly Curé of Ars who defined the priesthood as “the love of the Heart of Jesus”.
The Stole with which the figure of Jesus is adorned calls to mind that he is the Supreme and Eternal High Priest, and the fact that every priest is made a continuation of that One Priest within history and in the various generations which succeed one another.
The arms held out recall the typical attitude of prayer and meditation which are proper to the priest. The wounds of the hands and the side of the figure of Christ in the logo remind us of the one redemptive sacrifice and recall the vicarious satisfaction and total self-gift typical of the priesthood. The attitude of welcome seems to say, “Come to me all you who labour and over-burdened, and I will give you rest”. It is a consoling invitation to every priest who wears himself out in the daily exercise of pastoral charity, even for example in the driest and rockiest places, so that they also can in their turn show the same attitude to those who are near and to those who are distant.

STRONG ECUMENICAL ELEMENT TO PAULINE YEAR
June 28, 2008 – June 29, 2009
Cardinal Cordero Lanza di Montezemolo, from St. Paul’s Outside-the-Walls, remarked how Pope Benedict had called the Pauline year during the celebration of first Vespers for the Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul on 28 June 2007, in order to commemorate the second millennium of the birth of the Apostle of the Gentiles. On that occasion, the Pope had highlighted the ecumenical dimension of the event because St. Paul “was particularly committed to bringing the Good News to all people, and made prodigious efforts for the unity and harmony of all Christians”.
The cardinal explained how the Pauline year will “rediscover the figure of the Apostle; reread the numerous Letters he sent to the first Christian communities; relive the early years of our Church; delve deeply into his rich teaching to the ‘gentiles’; meditate on his vigorous spirituality of faith, hope and charity; make a pilgrimage to his tomb and to the numerous places he visited while founding the first ecclesial communities; revitalise our faith and our role in today’s Church in the light of his teachings; pray and work for the unity of all Christians in a united Church”.

Death, loss and grief are a part of everyone’s life. Pain, isolation and confusion are some of the feelings we can often experience after the loss of a loved one.
The mutual support and encouragement offered in a small group setting can ease the pain and struggle of loss. Sharing common experiences and concerns can help you discover new strengths and insights which can aid in your grieving and healing process.
For the past eight years, Linda Wisz has been the Bereavement Director at Nativity of Our Lord Church and has facilitated fifteen Bereavement Support Groups. Her experience in this role has evolved over the years, beginning with many years of personal experiences, and ministering one-on-one to those in need.
In preparation for her current work of facilitating Bereavement Groups, Linda has benefited from invaluable training and guidance from Kim Chiotti followed by Bereavement Support Group Training led by Dr. Alan D. Wolfelt, Ph.D. Director, Center for Loss and Life Transition, Colorado . She has also attended a variety of seminars and conferences over the past 20 years which have drawn her into this ministry.
Bereavement Group Sessions are now being offered; led by a female/male team willing to listen and help you work through your grief. If you have experienced the loss of a loved one in your life recently or in the past years, you are invited to join the next group:

The Significance of the Dead Sea Scrolls for Judaism and Christianity
The Dead Sea Scrolls have been a constant source of fascination since their chance discovery by Bedouin tribesmen in 1947. They provide a rare, if not unique, insight into life and customs around the time of Jesus’ life and death. They contain our earliest copies of the books of the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament and many other Jewish writings that we did not know at all before this discovery.
Dr. Adolfo Roitman, an expert on the Dead Sea Scrolls, is the director and curator of the Shrine of the Book at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, which houses Israel’s collection of the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Bar Kokhba Cave of Letters materials. He has made significant contributions to the understanding of the Scrolls and is involved in their preservation and display for the general public. Dr. Roitman is a Rabbi and holds a Ph.D. degree in Ancient Jewish Literature and Religion from the Hebrew University in Israel.
